Protect Asylum

Protect Asylum

To justify his demand for a Wall on our southern border and harsh immigration policies, President Trump has manufactured a crisis that is undermining the right of thousands of people to seek asylum in this country. This is a cruel attack on already traumatized men and women and children, including many who have suffered torture and other atrocities. Please tell the U.S. House of Representatives to reject President Trump’s cruelty and affirm that seeking asylum is a legal right.

As someone who believes in the compassionate care for those who have survived torture, I am urging the House of Representative to uphold the legal right of refugees to seek asylum in U.S.

This right has been recognized by the U.S. and the United Nations for decades. What’s more, it’s a critical mechanism of escape for tens of thousands of victims of torture, who otherwise may lose their lives and those of their loved ones.

President Trump’s use of a manufactured “crisis” to strip thousands of refugees of the right to seek asylum is a blatant violation of recognized law and a cruel assault on already traumatized men, women and children.

Now is not the time for the United States to underestimate how its actions reverberate around the world. We simply cannot maintain a credible stance as global leader if we do not uphold the law and help those who desperately need safety.
